“I Don’t Have Time” – The Lie We Tell Ourselves About Exercise

I hear it every day. In fact, it might be the most common phrase that walks through our doors at DSC: “I really want to get in shape, but I just don’t have time.”

Here’s what I’ve learned after years in the Health and Wellness space and by watching our most successful members transform their lives: The highest functioning people with the most demanding schedules don’t try to “find” time for exercise. They make it.

The Business Owner Who Runs His Errands (Literally)

One of our members in Osprey owns several businesses and has scaled one to five locations. When I first met him, he was on a run and stopped by to inquire about membership. But here’s the thing – he didn’t just happen to run by our gym. He had intentionally mapped his running route to pass our location, killing two birds with one stone.

Think about the time he saved: no searching for keys, no getting in the car, no driving to the gym and back. That’s 30 minutes right there. He didn’t find time; he created it through smart planning.

The Horse Show Mom Who Refused to Sit Still

I get it. I’m a parent too. I spent years driving my daughter Zoe to horse shows – events that could last an entire day, weekend, or even a week. There’s tremendous downtime in the horse world. While other parents sat and chatted (which is wonderful, don’t get me wrong), I packed my running shoes and road bike.

Between events, I’d get my workout in. Yes, I sometimes showered where the horses were cleaned. Yes, other parents absolutely talked about me behind my back.

During lacrosse and field hockey practices, while parents gathered to socialize, I’d show up in running gear and hit the cross country course. Was I judged? Absolutely. Called a “health nut”? More times than I can count.

But here’s the payoff: At my age, I’m healthier than most 20-year-olds. More importantly, I set an example for my daughter that health is a priority. When we make health a priority, something else has to go – whether that’s TV time, social media scrolling, or chatting at practice.

Zoe used to think I was a lunatic health nut. Now, as an adult, she’s following suit and learning that the real lunacy is not taking care of yourself.

The TV Show Test

Let me ask you something: If your favorite show is “Shark Tank” or “America’s Got Talent,” have you ever said, “I really want to watch Shark Tank, but I just can’t find the time. The day gets away from me”?

Of course not! You make time for it because you enjoy it. It brings you pleasure. It’s your relief valve from the day.

Now imagine if going to the gym felt the same way. Imagine if you:

  • Looked forward to it
  • Had fun there
  • Left feeling better than when you arrived
  • Used it as your stress relief valve

Then imagine if, by going just twice a week, you:

  • Got stronger
  • Felt better in your body
  • Slept better
  • Had more energy
  • Could keep up with your kids (or grandkids)

That’s Exactly What We Do at DSC

This isn’t just a pipe dream. This is what our members experience every day. Our world-class coaches create an environment where exercise becomes something you want to make time for, not something you have to force into your schedule.

We know you’re balancing family, career, and maybe caring for aging parents. We know you might have old injuries that flare up. We know you’re stressed and pulled in a million directions.

That’s why our coaches are trained to:

  • Know every member’s injury status and limitations
  • Provide safe modifications (not easier – safer) that still work the intended muscle groups
  • Create a supportive, judgment-free environment where everyone belongs
  • Make your workout the best hour of your day

REAL TALK

If you want to be exceptional, sometimes that means doing things differently than everyone else. Sometimes it’s lonely. But the alternative – letting your health slide while you “can’t find time” – is far lonelier in the long run.

You don’t need to find time. You need to make it. And when you do, you need a place that makes that time worthwhile.

That place is DSC. Where your “I don’t have time” transforms into “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Ready to stop looking for time and start making it? We’re here when you are.
